Akris was founded in 1922 by Alice Kriemler-Schoch; the word “Akris” was derived from the letters of Kriemler-Schoch’s name.
The name stands for a new kind of luxury. Unmistakably modern, feminine and discrete. Elegance, an uncomplicated silhouette and simple to combine these are the charms of the Couture Designer Collection as well as the creative flair, the simple cut and the flattering materials.
The collection carries the unmistakable signature of designer Albert Kriemler, who creates fashion for a feminine woman with personality
and charisma. He has unwaveringly adopted an independent and authentic way forward and his unique philosophy has helped the company gain worldwide prestige in recent years.
Akris has written over 80 years of history as the Swiss family company in St. Gallen. With just one sewing machine, Albert und Peter Kriemler’s grandmother, Alice Kriemler Schoch, laid the foundations for the current operation in 1922 and at first, made only aprons. In 1945, son Max followed in her footsteps and over a period of 40 years, built Akris up into a couture house known all over the world, as well as producing for other fashion houses, such as Hubert de Givenchy and Ted Lapidus, to name only two.
Together with his wife Ute, Max Kriemler created a company culture that defined the highest quality and style as their most important values, which won them international accolades. Since the 1980’s, his two sons have jointly run the company. Albert Kriemler is responsible for design and marketing and Peter Kriemler directs management and production.
The company’s headquarters remain located in the embroidery capital of St. Gallen, a small city in eastern Switzerland. The Akris collection is entirely produced in Switzerland in the firm’s own production centers in St. Gallen, Zurich and the Ticino.
